Industrial Property Supports Innovation

BANJA LUKA, 03 November 2015 – The European Union (EU) funded project Capacity Building of the Institute for Intellectual Property Though the Establishment of Informational-Educational Centres of the Institute (CBIIP) is organising a series of awareness raising workshops, Industrial Property Supports Innovation that will begin today.

The first workshop will be held in the Innovation Centre Banja Luka (ICBL), Banja Luka; followed by the Foreign Trade Chamber, Sarajevo on 05 November; and  the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Development (INTERA), Mostar on 06 November. The workshops will offer information on industrial property, starting with the basics of industrial property rights (IPR) to the use of industrial property in innovation purposes.

Participants, representing universities, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), large-scaled enterprises and other significant stakeholders, will have the opportunity to learn new information and incorporate it in their strategies as well as to facilitate, support and use industrial property as a tool for innovation and research.

Mr. Mihajlo Zatezalo, an intellectual property (IP) attorney from Belgrade and the workshops’ distinguished speaker, will present the best strategies to protect industrial properties and share information on patents, trademarks and designs. He will also present practical information on the use of patent databases for innovative purposes.

The aim of the European Union funded project, Capacity Building of the Institute for Intellectual Property through the Establishment of Information-Education Centres of the Institute (CBIIP) is to raise the capacity of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) through the establishment of three Information-Education Centres (IECs) within the Institute. These IECs will be located in the Institute’s headquarters in Mostar as well as branch offices in Sarajevo and Banja Luka. The IECs will provide significant support to the users of the intellectual property system in BiH as well as increase the overall knowledge and understanding of the intellectual property culture and innovation in the country. The EU is funding this project in the amount of 620.680 Euros from IPA 2011. This project is being implemented by a consortium led by HD European Consulting Group.
