Project description: The overall objective of the project is to increase the effectiveness of the Beneficiary country’s preparation for EU accession in area of nature protection. The purpose of this contract is to assist the Beneficiary country to carry out the preparation of establishment of Natura 2000 network.

Position: Key expert 1: Team Leader I Expert in Natura 2000 (415 working days)

The Team Leader will be responsible for the overall implementation of the project, including: timely submitting of the required reports, sound financial management, co-ordination of all project activities and aspects, cooperating with other ongoing projects related to nature protection, organization and supervision of all project management matters, liaison with the Contracting Authority, the beneficiary and other stakeholders. In addition, the Team Leader will provide provision of expert input in the tasks related to Result 1 and 2 Tasks: Assessment at national level of potential sites according Birds and Habitat Directives for NATURA 2000 Network and Result 4 Tasks: Strengthening the administrative capacity for implementation of nature protection legislation. The Team Leader will also contribute to the Result 5 Tasks related to public awareness campaign for Natura 2000.

Qualification and skills

  • Minimum a bachelor’s degree awarded on completion of 3 (three) years of study in university or equivalent institution) in natural sciences, ecology/biology environmental science;
  • A Master/PhD degree in a field relevant for this contract will be considered an advantage

General professional experience

  • Minimum 10 (ten), preferably 15 (fifteen) years of general professional experience in the field of EU nature protection and/or environment;

Specific professional experience

  • Minimum 5 (five), preferably 8 (eight) years of experience in implementation of Birds and Habitats Directives in EU Member States and/or Candidate Countries and/or Potential Candidate Countries;
  • Experience as key expert in minimum 1 (one), preferably 2 (two) technical assistance projects financed by EU or bilateral donors or Twinning project/programme related to environment;
  • Experience as team leader in at least 1 (one), preferably 3 (three) projects related to approximation and/or implementation of EU environmental legislation during the last 7 years
  • Experience in EU accession countries will be considered a value-added
